Odysseus And Aeneas Essays (988 words) - Odyssey, Trojans

Odysseus And Aeneas In the event that there is any likelihood that an examination could be made with the well known excursions of Odysseus and Aeneas, it must be realized that Aeneas is really a saint looking for his own spirit while Odysseus is a saint attempting to locate his previous lifestyle what's more, it could be said, his old soul. The Aeneid is a significant profound mission, which makes it remarkable in old writing and conversely with the Odyssey. Just Virgil admits to the likelihood that a character can change, develop, and create. In the story's prior stages, the character of Aeneas is clearly uncertain of himself, continually looking for guidelines from his dad or from the divine beings before investing in any strategy. In the black market he sees a viewpoint of things to come history of Rome down to the hour of Augustus, and that vision gives him the self-assurance to follow up on his own drive. Nearly, Odysseus is driven however his excursion starting with obvious fearlessness and proceeding with a vindictive life. While exploring the legend's phenomenal excursion, I thought about whether Aeneas was incredible on the grounds that his destiny made him extraordinary or was he incredible on the grounds that he had the mental fortitude and assurance to live up to the job destiny gave him? There is a side to Aeneas, I saw that isn't extremely great, in any event, when I could nearly comprehend why he feels the way he does. He is miserable, tired, continually sitting tight for his dad or the divine beings to let him know what to do. Yet, Aeneas consistently satisfies his obligation to his family, to his nation, what's more, to the divine beings, in any event, when he is discouraged. He is rarely egotistical. He generally puts his obligation to others first. In that manner, his activities all through his excursion to the black market were to some degree diverse that Odysseus'. In Aeneas' case, he also was as incredible of a survivor as Odysseus. Truth be told, he in any event matches him in the manner that he is one of those individuals who can lose everything what's more, despite everything start from the very beginning once more. Aeneas goes from being a casualty of the Greeks at Troy to turning into a hero in Italy. Virgil's Aeneas is the main character in Western writing who really changes and creates. His battles help him find what his identity is and what he believes is significant. In the event that I needed to name one quality that characterizes Aeneas all through his excursion, it is his dedication to obligation, a quality that the Romans called pietas or devotion. This quality props him up in any event, when he would prefer to disregard his destiny. At last, this equivalent quality causes him to acknowledge, even welcome, that destiny. Since, when Aeneas at long last figures it out that every one of his endeavors will make the radiant Roman Empire potential, his affection for his family and his nation are satisfied. The outcome is that the Aeneas we see toward the finish of the Aeneid is resolved, certain about himself, and sure that he realizes what is correct. He has become an extraordinary pioneer who can force request on individuals who show increasingly narrow minded and raucous feelings. Odysseus, as the work of art meaning of his name proposes, is genuinely and person who causes extraordinary inconvenience. All through the Odyssey, there are many immediate and roundabout conditions in which Odysseus unleashes devastation upon others. He leaves Troy, battles at the island of Ismaros, and witnesses the drowsy existence of the Lotos Eaters. He blinds and afterward deceives the one-peered toward man-eater, Cyclopes, the child of Poseidon. In the end, he even covers Elpenor, one of his team individuals who was executed during this difficulty. Never does he start nor end with an absence of self certainty anyplace near the one displayed by Aeneas at the initiation of his excursion. After his first phase of devastation, Odysseus opposes the melody of the Seirenes, and sails between the whirlpool and the bluff, embodied by the names of Skylla and Kharybdis. Be that as it may, his men tragically eat the illegal steers of the sun god, Helios. So Zeus wrecks Odysseus' boat, suffocating the entirety of his men. Odysseus figures out how to endure Skylla and Kharybdis once more, what's more, cleans up at Ogygia Island where he remains eight years with Kalypso. After all that, he is as yet ready to manufacture a boat and set out again for Ithaka, however he becomes wrecked by Poseidon and swims to Skheria, where Nausikaa, King Alkinoos' little girl, discovers him. Homer appears to intentionally interest us by having different characters portray Odysseus, He had no opponents, your dad, at the stunts of war.

Budgeting Process Coursework - 1100 Words

Budgeting Process (Coursework Sample) Content: Budgeting processStudent NameCourse NameCourse NumberInstructorSubmission DateIntroductionPublic budgeting systems are ways of selecting societal means and ends. It consists of a number of participants and processes. The processes help in bringing the participants in to interaction. The main purpose of budgeting is to allocate the ever-scarce resources among the always-competing public demands. This ensures that the societal goals and objectives are obtained. The budget cycle is the life of a budget from inception to evaluation (Lee, Johnson Joyce, 2008). The budget goes through a number of processes, which include preparation and submission, approval, execution and audit, and evaluation. This ensures that there is transparency in the budgeting process. Preparation and SubmissionThis is where the decision process takes place. Considering a federal government budget, the president, who is the chief executive, has the overall responsibility for the budget preparation. Different government agencies on the request from the chief executive prepare and submit their budget request. However, the agencies have to consider the priorities as directed by the chief executive (Alesina Perotti, 1996). The requests are then assembled into one document. The chief executive then reviews the requests. Here the chief executive has to consider the general welfare of the society. The public interests have to be considered and the general effect such a budget will have on the whole economy (Lee, Johnson Joyce, 2008). Another vital concern is whether the budget estimates will yield a surplus or deficit. The chief executive having reviewed and approved all the submissions then presents the document to the congress. However, it must be understood that the president does not directly do all this work. The president has a team of professionals who help him as advisors. The overall mission of the federal government is to equally serve all people. Thus, when preparing th e budget, the public interests should be integrated in to the budget. The effect of the budget to the economic environment is very vital. It has to be considered whether the budget estimates may deter businesses from growing (Lee, Johnson Joyce, 2008). High taxation for example may have a negative effect on small businesses. Thus, budget preparation ensures that the public interests are integrated into the budget. ApprovalWhat the president represents to the congress is just a proposal. The congress immediately begins the process of reviewing the presidents request. Once the lawmakers have thoroughly reviewed the requests, the budget committee in the congress and in the senate both writes a budget resolution. The resolution is just a blue print and not a binding document. The document provides the congress with a framework that enables that a good decision is made on spending and taxation (Schick LoStracco, 2000). It sets the annual spending limits for all government agencies and departments though not for specific programs. After the resolutions are passed by the two chambers, a joint conference takes place to reconcile the documents and an ironed out version is voted on by both chambers. The congress and senate includes members who have been democratically elected by the citizens. The two houses play a major role in the budgeting process to make sure that the will of the people is considered. They curb vices like back door spending where the president can just money on non-approved programs (Lee, Johnson Joyce, 2008). They also ensure that corruption and embezzlement of public fund does not take place. With an approved budget, the public knows the taxation rates, and how their hard-earned money, will be spent. Execution and AuditExecution is the phase of action of budgeting. All the plans included in the budget are put in to operation in this phase. The budget directly or indirectly contains the plans for the work to be done in the whole year. It also c ontains the achievements expected to be met. Execution involves putting the plans in the budget into action. The budget and planning office monitor how the agencies are spending the money. Agencies submit reports with summaries of the already spent amount and projections for the remaining time (Schick LoStracco, 2000). The reports are reviewed to identify any spending pressures in due time and identify areas that need adjustment to avoid overspending. Since agencies had already submitted their requests to the president, the actual appropriation may vary from the actual amount requested. The agency must accommodate the difference. The agencies must work within their budget. To ensure this various controls are imposed on the agencies which include preaudit among others. After granting an allotment, the agency must submit a request to the government to be allowed to spend the money (Lee, Johnson Joyce, 2008). The request has to be matched to the specific budget to identify whether th e expenditure is within the budget. As time goes by the congress can make appropriate changes to accommodate any arising issues or demands. The execution process is closely monitored since it is the most important phase. This is where the theoretical budget is proved in action. If not well monitored, the complete budgeting process can turn out to be a waste of precious time (Premchand, 1983). Auditing also ensures that departments are strictly spending as per the budget to avoid misappropriations of funds. EvaluationThis is the final stage in the budget cycle. In this stage an assessment on whether public resources have been appropriately managed is done. This is to ensure there is good governance and efficient use of public resources. All government agencies must submit reports at the end of the financial year detailing how the appropriated money was spent. The body constituted to...

Tips on How to Set College Goals

Having goals in college can be a great way to stay focused, motivate yourself, and keep your priorities in order when things get stressful and overwhelming. But just how can you set your college goals in a way that sets you up for success? Think About Your End Goals What kind of goals do you want to achieve during your time in school? These goals can be large (graduate in 4 years) or small (attend a study session for chemistry once a week for at least a month). But having a main goal in mind is the first, and perhaps most important step, in setting realistic goals. Be Specific With Your Goals Instead of Do better in Chemistry, set your goal as Earn at least a B in Chemistry this term. Or better yet: Study at least an hour a day, attend one group study session a week, and go to office hours once a week, all so that I can earn a B in Chemistry this term. Being as specific as possible while setting your goals can help make your goals as realistic as possible—meaning youll be more likely to achieve them. Be Realistic About Your Goals If you barely passed most of your classes last semester and are now on academic probation, setting a goal of earning a 4.0 next semester is probably unrealistic. Spend some time thinking about what makes sense for you as a learner, as a student, and as a person. If youre not a morning person, for example, setting the goal of waking up at 6:00 a.m. every morning to hit the gym is probably not realistic. But setting the goal of getting in a good workout after your Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon Shakespeare class probably is. Similarly, if youve been struggling with your academics, set reasonable goals that focus on helping you make progress and improve in ways that seem reachable. Can you leap from a failing grade last semester to an A this semester? Probably not. But you can aim to improve to, say, at least a C if not a B-. Think About a Realistic Timeline Setting goals within a time frame will help you set deadlines for yourself. Set goals for a week, a month, a semester, each year (first-year, sophomore year, etc.), and graduation. Every goal you set for yourself, too, should have some kind of time frame attached. Otherwise, youll end up putting off what you need to do since theres no deadline by which you promised yourself youd reach your goal. Think About Your Personal and Intellectual Strengths Setting goals can be challenging for even the most driven, determined college students. If you set yourself up to do things that are a bit too challenging, however, you can end up setting yourself up for failure instead of for success. Spend some time thinking about your own personal and intellectual strengths. Use your strong organization skills, for example, to create a time management system so you stop pulling all-nighters every time you have a paper due. Or use your strong time management skills to figure out which co-curricular commitments you need to cut in order to focus more on your academics. In essence: use your strengths to find ways to overcome your weaknesses. Translate Your Strengths Into Details Using your strengths—which everyone has, so dont sell yourself short!—is the best way to get from idea to reality. When setting goals, then, use your strengths to make sure you: Have a plan and a way to get there. What is your goal? What specific things are you going to do to reach it? By when?Have a way to check your progress. How will you know if your goal is working? When will check in with yourself to see if youre making the smaller steps you need to take along the route to reaching your big goal?Have a way to hold yourself accountable. What will happen if you dont do what you promised yourself youd do? What will you change?Have a way to adapt to change. Inevitably, something will happen that will throw a wrench in your plans. So what will you do to adjust to change? Being too strict with your goals can be counterproductive, too, so make sure youre flexible.Have rewards built in along the way. Dont forget to reward yourself for reaching mini-goals along the way to reaching your big goals! Setting and working toward goals takes major work and dedication. Reward yourself to keep your motivation up and to, well, just be nice to yourself. Because who doesnt like a little recognition, right?

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder The Serotonin and PANDA...

Imagine feeling like a slave in your own body; being forced to do ridiculous rituals and having constant compulsions to do things that you know don’t make sense. This is what it is like to live with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder [OCD]. In the United States alone, over 2 million people suffer from OCD (Parks, 2011, p.8, para. 3) and almost 1 in 100 children all over the globe (Kadaba, 2002). It affects people of all races, genders and socioeconomic backgrounds (Parks, 2011, p. 8, para. 2) but no one has found the cause of this disorder. Since its discovery and modern conceptualization, there has been an ongoing debate about whether OCD is caused by environmental factors or if it is inherited through genetics. Although there is valid†¦show more content†¦His findings were supported by Thomsen (1994), who found that the brain structure of 24 patients from OCD-like familial structures did not differ substantially from patients with severe mental illnesses. Even though the Adams and Thomsen studies raise a fair point, of all the studies done on the correlation of OCD and families, a majority of them support genetic transmission (Nestadt et al, 2010). Therefore, OCD is more likely to be caused by heredity and genetics than family structures. One of the more compelling theories of the cause of OCD is the serotonin theory. Two different theories based on serotonin are more prominent than the rest. Essau Petermann (2001) explains the theory by stating that OCD is caused from a lack of a chemical substance called serotonin (a neurotransmitter). Their version of the theory is supported by the use of drugs that increase the amount of serotonin in the brain which relieve many symptoms of OCD. On the other hand, Penzel (2000) describes the serotonin theory as a disrupted transmission of serotonin. When the serotonin is being returned to its vesicle chamber, the last step of neural-transmission takes place prematurely, which then causes a brain dysfunction and forms compulsions. Disneyland History free essay sample

Disneylands History [pic] One day Walt Disney had a vision. It was a vision of a place where children and parents could have fun together. The more Walt dreamed of a magical park, the more imaginative and elaborate it became. The original plans for the park were on 8 acres next to the Burbank studios where his employees and families could go to relax. Although, World War II put those plans on hold. During the war, Walt had time to come up with new ideas, and creations for his magical park. It was soon clear that 8 acres wouldnt be enough. Finally in 1953, he had the Stanford Research Institute conduct a survey for a 100- cre site, outside of Los Angeles. He needed space to build rivers, waterfalls, and mountains; he would have flying elephants and giant teacups;a fairy-tale castle, moon rockets, and a scenic railway; all inside a magic kingdom he called Disneyland. Location was a top priority. The property would have to be within the Los Angeles metropolitan area, and accessible by freeway. It would also have to be affordable: Walts pockets were only so deep. Walt once said l could never convince the financiers that Disneyland was feasible, because dreams offer too little collateral. So Walt turned to Television for his financial support. Walt Disneys Disneyland television series offered a glimpse of the future project. This brought the idea of Disneyland into reality for Walt and the American people. Construction for Disneyland began on July 21, 1954, a meager 12 months before the park was cheduled to open. From that day forward Walt Disneys life would never be the same. Some 160-acres of citrus trees had been cleared and 15 houses moved to make room for the park. The area was in semi-rural Orange County, near a freeway that would eventually stretch from San Diego to Vancouver. I When the real designing came around, Walt was met with inevitable questions. He said: What you need is a weenie, which says to people come this way. People wont go down a long corridor unless theres something promising at the end. You have to have something the beckons them to walk this way. Walt also had planed for an exotic tropical place in a far-off region of the world. Called Adventureland. Walt said, To create a land that would make this dream reality, we pictured ourselves far from civilization, in the remote Jungles of Asia and Africa. Frontierland was made to relive the pioneer days of the American frontier. Walt said: All of us have a cause to be proud of our countrys history, shaped by the pioneering spirit of our forefathers.. .0ur adventures are designed to give you the feeling of having lived, even for a short while, during our countrys pioneer days. Fantasyland was created with the goal to make dreams come true from the lyrics of When You Wish Upon a Star. Walt said: What youngster.. .has not dreamed of flying with Peter Pan over moonlit London, or tumbling into Alices nonsensical Wonderland? In Fantasyland, these classic stories of everyones youth have become realities for youngsters-of all ages-to participate in. Fantasyland would feature a large Sleeping Beauty Castle, and a Fantasy Village. Tomorrowland was created as a look at the marvels of the future. Walt said: Tomorrow can be a wonderful age. Our scientists today are opening the doors of the Space Age to achievements that will benefit our children and generations to come The Tomorrowland attractions have been designed to give you an opportunity to participate in adventures that are a living blueprint of our future. Although, Walt had trouble working on Tommorrowland. He said that right when we do Tommorrowland, it will be out dated. Walt Stayed close to every detail of the Parks Construction, and he visited the site in Anaheim several times a week. Progress went sporadically despite exasperating obstacles. The Rivers of America, carved out of sandy citrus grove soil, refused to hold water. The answer was finally found in a bed of native clay: an inch layer on the river bottom formed a pad as hard as cement. Although, minor set backs did follow, progress did continue. The magical little park was really a $17,000,000 Magic Kingdom. Walts dream had ome true and Disneyland was ready to open. Opening day, was a day to remember. Six thousand invitations to the Grand Opening had been mailed. By mid-afternoon over 28,000 ticket holders were storming the Magic Kingdom. Most of the tickets were counterfeit. Walt Disney was 53 when he dedicated Disneyland Park. It was a memorable ceremony. The re in Town Square, Walt could look around and see the fulfillment of his hopes, dreams, and ambitions in the form of a spectacular entertainment kingdom. Although, Opening Day was a terrible disaster. A 15 day heat wave raised temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, due to a plumbers strike, few water fountains were operating in the hot weather. Asphalt still steaming, because it had been laid the night before, literality trapping high heeled shoes. After opening day, the heat wave continued, and almost wiped out the park. Beside the terrible opening day conditions, the park did eventually pick up. By 1965, ten years after opening day, 50 Million visitors had come through the gates. Even though Walt Disney wasnt able to see how his park and his company prospered and grew into the 21st Century, his legacy still lives on with us. Throughout Disneyland and throughout the entire world, he will always be there. As Walt Disney sat at a bench, at an amusement park, watching his daughters play, he noticed how ragged and filthy the small amusement park was. He also observed peoples reactions to different rides, and noticed how childrens parents had nothing to do. They would be anxious to go home, while their children were still having fun, and playing. This is where Walt was conjuring, and planning a new type of amusement park; one that would be clean, and would have attractions for parents and children together. This was Walt Disneys idea, which eventually turned to be Disneyland. Walt once said: What this country really needs is an amusement park that families can take their children to. Theyve gotten so honky tonk with a lot of questionable characters running around, and theyre not to safe. Theyre not well kept. I want to have a place thats as clean as anything could ever be, and all the people in it [his park] are first- class citizens, and treated like guests. Years before Disneyland was constructed, Walt was thinking, generating, and creating everything in his mind. He traveled the United States, and visited buildings of Americas most prolific inventors and creators, such as Thomas Edisons Workshop, the Wright Brothers Bicycle shop, and the home of the Dictionary magnate Noah Webster. While visiting these places, he was formulating and dreaming of a Mickey Mouse Park with a western village, Main Street, and more, these ideas would eventually form Disneyland. http://home. disney. go. com/travel/ 1 . Problem Solving Essay Topics For College Admission

Problem Solving Essay Topics For College AdmissionIn many cases, when writing an essay on a particular topic for college admissions, students should first consider essay topics that may seem strange. This is because some people want to write about something that they are familiar with, even if they are not. After all, there are a lot of topics for college essays that are completely alien to the average person.First of all, if you have difficulty thinking outside of the box, you should not be writing college admissions essays. Although some people may think it's perfectly acceptable to write essays about topics that are far outside of their experience, this is simply not the case. You need to write about topics that will stand out as unique and of your own experience. For example, if you want to write about a topic that relates to your specific ideas, you may want to try talking about your family, your city, or even about a certain television show. The point is, if you aren't familiar with a specific topic, you may find yourself sidetracked, thus losing the plot. If you are unfamiliar with a topic, try to think of things that you are knowledgeable about. For example, if you know about football, you can write an essay on the sport or the game itself.Another problem solver might want to consider writing essays on things that they already know about, so that they are familiar with writing about these topics, but not actually going into them. That is, some people who want to write college admissions essays have knowledge of these topics, but do not necessarily have any insight into how to actually solve the problem. So, for this person, writing an essay on a topic that they already know about could be a good idea.Of course, not every college admissions writer has a background in math or science. Therefore, it is possible to write an essay on a complicated topic that is actually quite simple. For example, if you have experience working in a banking office, but also sp ent a few years working at an online store or at a grocery store, you may be able to write an essay on how you can solve problems related to both of these careers. For example, if you were in a finance or accounting job, you would not know a thing about computers, but you could still write an essay on a computer game. It might seem strange, but it would be quite different than someone who never had any experience at all with computers. Therefore, it is important to consider the fact that many people cannot write about something that they have no experience with. To write an essay that would be successful, you must actually understand how to solve a problem.Problem solving essay topics can be relatively easy to come up with. They should be something that the reader finds interesting, but also something that would be interesting to solve. For example, if you were interested in learning more about some real estate agents, you would not necessarily need to know about the state of real es tate in the country. However, you could learn about real estate laws, and then write about real estate professionals in some type of relation to real estate law. Now, while this is a rather simple example, it is not so hard to think of a hard problem that you would like to solve. There are actually a lot of things that you can come up with and find ways to make your essay a success. Of course, the best part is that you are solving a problem.
